Final report on antibiotic and multiresistant bacteria in waters of Lower Saxony
The final report on multi-resistant bacteria is available: “Still urgent need for research”. The Niedersächsische Landesbetrieb für Wasserwirtschaft, Küsten- und Naturschutz (NLWKN) and the Universitätsklinikum Bonn (Uni Bonn) have presented the 170-page final report on the occurrence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antibiotic residues in wastewater treatment plants and surface waters in Lower Saxony. According to the results of the investigation in the water initiated by the Ministry of the Environment, there are no indications of a health hazard for the general population. It is assumed that the usual hygiene rules, which serve the protection from diseases, are adhered to.
